MAN’S FIRST SIN

DECEMBER 11, Genesis 3:6-7

Eve ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. She had disobeyed God’s command not to eat it. She then gave the fruit to Adam and he ate it as well. So, both Adam and Eve sinned.

When our first parents Adam and Eve sinned, all of mankind was brought into sin and misery. From that moment, mankind became under God’s wrath and curse. After that, man was due for death, and to the pains of hell forever. All people born after that are born in sin and are spiritually dead.

If we are to be reconciled to God and live with Him forever, we need to be born again. We have all inherited the original sin of Adam because he was our representative – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).

The representative principle is seen in these examples:

  1. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when the table- tennis players representing Singapore won a match, the ____________ is said to win too.

  2. In inter-school matches, when the football team of a school wins, the whole ____________ celebrates the victory.

  3. In inter-class quizzes, when the team of four representing a class wins, that ____________ is said to win too.

Thought: Adam represented all mankind.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, without Jesus, I am condemned. Please have mercy on me and remove my sins far from me. Help me to trust in the Lord Jesus, for it is in His name that I pray, amen.
